Kingdom Combat – Beginner’s Rule Guide
🎯 Goal of the Game
Each player builds up a kingdom, recruits units, and fights to destroy other players’ fortresses. Last fortress standing wins.
🃏 What You Need
-
A deck of at least 30 cards.
-
A fortress with Starting Garrison picked out.
Each player uses cards from 1 or 2 factions (like Imperials and/or Necronians)
💡 Card Types
There are a few kinds of cards you’ll use:
🔹 Action Cards
Used to impact the game during turns:
-
Dirty Tricks – surprise plays you can use anytime.
-
Events – big effects you play on your turn.
-
Abilities & Equipment – give extra powers to your units.
🔹 Units
These are your fighters:
-
They have Attack, Defense, and Armor stats.
-
They go into play exhausted (can’t act until next turn) and protect your kingdom or attack enemies.
⚔️ Playing the Game
Each turn is split into phases:
🔹 Start of Your Turn
-
Activate all cards – units become ready again.
-
Gain gold from your structures.
-
Draw a card.
🔹 Before Combat
You can play cards from your hand or move your units around.
⚔️ Combat Phase
-
Choose which units will attack and who they target.
-
Opponent chooses defenders or retreat units back if they can.
-
Units deal damage at the same time.
-
If a unit takes damage equal to its armor, it loses 1 HP.
-
Units reduced to 0 HP are destroyed.
-
🛡️ Important Rules
💥 Attacking
-
Units can attack enemies up to 1 zone away unless they are mounted (then they move differently).
🏰 Defending Structures
-
If a unit defends a structure, damage first goes to the defending unit.
-
Any extra damage goes to the structure.
Structures with 0 HP are destroyed.
📦 Winning the Game
You win when all other players’ fortresses are destroyed.
🧠 Tips for New Players
✨ Make sure your deck has a good balance of:
-
Units (to attack and defend)
-
Structures (to generate gold so you can play cards)
-
Action cards for extra effects.
✨ Use gold wisely — leftover gold doesn’t carry over to the next turn.
✨ Units attack stronger if you plan ahead — don’t rush all attacks at once.
🎉 Final Note
Kingdom Combat is meant to be fun and flexible — feel free to create your own effects and house rules once you know the basics!
